FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

What area do you cover?

Cambridge Complete Physiotherapy covers, Cambridgeshire, Essex, Suffolk and parts of Herts. Other areas may be considered upon individual request. Get in touch to find out.

How long will treatment take?

The duration of treatment varies for each dog and depends on several factors, including their condition or injury, age, current weight, fitness level, and your goals for physiotherapy. You will receive management advice and an exercise program as part of the treatment. Dogs whose owners follow this advice and plan tend to improve more quickly. We will discuss your dog's treatment plan and expected duration after the initial consultation.

What do I need for my first session?

Before your first appointment, I will need to contact your vet for permission to treat your animal. I will do this ahead of our first appointment.

On the day of the appointment, I will bring all necessary equipment, so you don't need to provide anything specific. Please ensure your pet is clean, dry, and has had a chance to use the toilet before the session begins. Ideally, sessions should take place in a room with minimal distractions.

Our sessions use a positive reinforcement approach, which means plenty of treats or games! I will bring a variety of tasty treats, but if your dog has dietary restrictions or is picky, please provide suitable treats. Additionally, ensure your dog has taken all prescribed medications and pain relief as advised by your vet on the day of the appointment.

Can I book a visit for my horse?

Yes, you can book an appointment for your horse by calling us at 07889883928 or emailing us at admin@cambridgecompletephysiotherapy.com. Typically, we will then reach out to your vet to obtain the necessary consent to treat your horse. Legally, we must have your vet's approval if they haven't directly referred us, but we will handle this process for you.

Is physiotherapy covered by my insurance?

Most insurance policies do cover physiotherapy, but it’s always wise to confirm this with your insurance provider.

What qualifications do you have to treat both humans and animals?

We have completed a full-time three-year BSc Hons degree in physiotherapy, qualifying us to treat humans. This title is protected. Jo has extensive experience working within the NHS and private practices, collectively amassing over 8 years of experience. Additionally, we have earned an PgDip in Veterinary Physiotherapy, enabling Jo to treat animals.

Why does having a human qualification enhance your animal physiotherapy skills?

Jo's human physiotherapy degree involved rigorous, full-time study over three years, covering the art and science of physiotherapy. Jo studied illness, injury, tissue healing, biomechanics, and body systems, learning how to collaborate within a healthcare team. These comprehensive skills are highly transferable to animal physiotherapy since the principles apply across species. Physiotherapy is a professional discipline, not just a short-term course or a series of weekend workshops. For more details, please see here.

How can you assist me as a rider?

We offer various services for riders, including combined assessments both on and off your horse. Your position and limb stability significantly impact your horse's balance and harmony. Our objectives are to:

Optimise movement for you and your horse

Minimise unnecessary forces and pressure from the saddle and bridle

Enhance your partnership’s efficiency and performanceImprove competition scores

Lower the risk of back pain and other musculoskeletal issues in your horse

Alleviate your aches and pains

Promote balance, stability, and mobility for better synergy with your horse

For the best outcomes, the rider-horse partnership must be in perfect harmony. Any imbalance in your musculoskeletal system can exacerbate existing issues in your horse. Correcting your posture and core stability can improve movement and balance for both you and your horse.
